Tasmania...

...here we come!

Good job boys.

:)

3 years, 7 months.

Next stop... Tasmania!!!

The Bulldogs take on Hawthorn this weekend in Tasmania, so we're heading there Saturday morning. It'll be a whirlwind 23 1/2 hour trip... but you only live in Australia once!!!

Goooo Doggies!!!

Cost of living in Australia

Think $4 a gallon for gas is bad? Check out Australia...

$1.60/ litre

3.8 litres / gallon

$6.08 AU equals $5.85 US$!!!

OMG!

(We've calculated the price of a gallon of milk on Hey Walsh, and now a gallon of gas. Maybe next we'll do a gallon of Diet Coke!)

Everything in Australia CAN kill you!

Missing divers found alive

Two scuba divers are lucky to be alive after they were plucked from the open ocean off Airlie Beach almost 24 hours since they were last seen on a pleasure dive on the Great Barrier Reef.

The divers, a 38-year-old man from the UK and a 40-year-old woman from the US, were found shortly before 9am floating in the water 7.8 nautical miles north-west of Bait Reef near Airlie Beach where they had been on a dive on Friday afternoon...

Ouch.

The streak has ended. Our boys lost tonight with a heartbreaking missed kick at the final buzzer.

Next weekend... we take on #1 Hawthorn down in Tasmania. And yes... we're trying to buy plane tickets so we can be there in person.

Food prices

I know it's the hip and trendy thing to talk about this week... but food prices are going through the roof. I thought it was just going to be another news story that wouldn't really affect us until I just went out to by milk. 2 liters of milk cost $4.70.

Let's do some rough math... there's about 4 liters in a gallon.

$1 AUS is roughly equal to $1 US (good for Australians, bad for Americans)

2 x $4.70 = a LOT of money for a gallon of milk!!!

Maybe we'll have to quit dunking our Tim Tams in milk.

No.

First Aid course

I was taking my official Australian Red Cross First Aid course today and we had to show our skills by playing out approaching the scene, assigning someone to call for help, and administering CPR. Things were going well until I said, "You... call 911!" Umm... can you pick the American in the room? There is no 911 here, just 000 (or "triple zero" as they say).

OOPS!!!!

Love them!!!

Even though no one believes in them despite an incredible start to the season... we still love them dearly. GO DOGGIES!

GOOOOO DOGGIES!!!

That's right... undefeated!!! Our boys won their 7th game today to bring them to a record of 7-1-0. They haven't played this well since the 40's (or 50's, or some long lost decade).

GOOOO DOGGIES!!!

What a whirlwind!

You may have noticed that Hey Walsh has been neglected for a week or so. Well... CARRIE WALL was in town and we spent about 10 days on an Aussie whirlwind. Let's see how much of Australia we crammed into that week and a half:

-went to a footy game (Geelong v. Brisbane)
-drove the Great Ocean Road (listening to our beloved Bulldogs beat Sydney on the scratchy AM dial)
-saw a blowhole
-stayed in an Aussie caravan park
-boogie boarded in Torquay
-went to an Aboriginal cultural centre
-visited the Australian Red Cross (of course)
-ate Tim Tams
-ate Tim Tams
-went to the Wool Museum
-spent another day at the Red Cross
-jet setted to Cairns, Queensland
-chased geckos down the hall of our hotel
-swam next to a waterfall
-took a boat 2 1/2 hours out to a sandy cay in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef
-snorkeled our hearts out
-ate Tim Tams
-bbq'd
-said, "Wow, that's a BIG spider"
-searched for cassowaries in the rain forest
-beach combed near Cape Tribulation
-ran across a suspension bridge
-ate Tim Tams
-fed dozens of kangaroos
-learned about koalas and red pandas
-fed more roos
-watched baby koalas snuggle with their mums
-hit the uber-touristy shops in Cairns
-ate roo, and emu, and croc
-back to the Red Cross for round 3
-beach combed in Altona
-ate the best wedges EVER
-hung out at the Lion Dance in Williamstown (and discovered it was Brad Johnson's favourite restaurant)
-met up with a Red Cross deployment buddy from my time in Mackay, QLD
-walked along the Yarra River
-met a friend "under the clocks at Flinders"
-checked out Federation Square
-polished off the tourist shopping with a footy and a cassowary sticker
-went to dinner at an amazing Indian restaurant with the Red Cross crew (who want Carrie to move here)

the end.

ginger kids

I love being an awkward redhead. Or, as they say in Australia... a "bluey."
